Food for Thought

The Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama offers a bit of daily e-mail called Food for Thought.  I enjoy receiving this -- it's often a quote, sometimes a scripture, and just about always new to me.  Here's the selection for today:

“For every follower of Christ there comes a choice, when the path veersoff toward the Cross. The wisdom of the world raises an alarm: Turn back, beware, ahead lies your destruction! But in our hearts a softer, firmer voice invites us, ‘Come, follow me, and I will show you the path of life.’”  - Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, The Journey to Peace

Cruising with Jesus

Many of you may remember Martha Horn from the South Carolina delegation at Triennial. She's really excited about one of her newest projects planned for next March.

From March 3rd to the 7th, Martha and her husband, Robert, will be cruising with Jesus as they lead a retreat aboard the Carnival Cruise liner Celebration. Entitled Jesus -- The Love of My Life, it will feature worship led by Wes Burk, and will include the following ports of call: Jacksonville, Freeport, and Nassau.

Martha has been teaching Bible studies for over 25 years and now is a full-time teacher and conference/retreat leader of national and international prominence. She is the founder of "100 Fold Life Ministry" which affords cities and churches the opportunity to hold conferences, retreats, teaching missions, quiet days or singular speaking engagements that will challenge and encourage those who attend to desire a closer walk with Jesus.

It has been a real blessing for me to get to know Martha and her husband, the Rev. Joseph Robert Horn IV. A native of South Carolina, Robert is a graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, and served in the Central Gulf Coast prior to returning to Charleston several years ago as rector of Trinity Church in Pinopolis. Most recently, he and Martha have accepted a call to their home church, St. James', where Robert will serve as associate rector.

Ready to go on this "retreat at sea"? Depending on room selection, the cost for this 4-night event begins at $479. If you're interested in cruising with Jesus (and Martha and Robert), contact Mary Ellen Doran at 843-406-9715 or 843-224-1797.
